Smith’s second novel is an historical fiction novel about the life’s trials of a teenager who grows up on the mean streets of New Orleans … and becomes a man on the battlefields of the Shenandoah Valley during the last days of the Civil War.

The novel focuses on the early life of Charles Montgomery Andres, who settled in what was then Hempstead County, Arkansas as a Civil War veteran in 1867.

Uncertain Times

The main character of “Uncertain Times” is Adnijio Benjamin Franklin Jones, a child of the South who makes his living as a nature photographer. He has had numerous tabletop photography books published and is currently shooting photos for a book of "Mysterious Caddo Lake" in East Texas.

The book meshes two main themes: 1) The revolving cast of characters he comes across in the small town of Uncertain and the problems and opportunities he encounters as a newcomer; and 2) To pass the time, Adj, a willing victim of ADHD, often dreams about past events, setting up some quirky slapstick and all-too-real observations about life in general and adolescence in particular.
